Mississippi University For Women
July 2017
Mississippi University for Women teamed with FOS of CannonDesign to conduct a comprehensive campus-wide facility condition assessment (FCA) and ASHRAE Level 2 energy audit. The University was seeking professional recommendations to inform long-term capital planning and reduce energy use, cost, and environmental footprint.
FOS assessed existing building conditions to identify deferred maintenance deficiencies across the following disciplines: architectural exterior, architectural interiors, structural, civil, mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, electrical, low-voltage systems, and communications. The assessment data created a prioritized schedule of repair and replacement in a 10-year period to inform the University’s decision making, plan for capital expenditure, and reduce risk of failures and associated emergency maintenance.
The ASHRAE Level 2 energy audit identified nearly 350 energy saving opportunities and developed actionable projects by discipline with cost-estimates to implement. FOS recommended 150 ECM’s identified in the audit with an average payback of roughly 4.5 years at a cost of $1.2M.
