City of Boston Selects FOS for Citywide Facility Assessment Contract

The assessments will empower the City of Boston to advance citywide objectives via next-generation facility leadership.

The City of Boston’s Public Facilities Department (PFD) has awarded a citywide Facilities Condition Assessment (FCA) contract to CannonDesign and its Facility Optimization Solutions (FOS) team. The FOS team will assess many civic buildings for the city including community centers, libraries, fire stations, theaters, recreation spaces, municipal and administrative buildings and more.

CannonDesign has a longstanding 40+ year relationship with the City of Boston and several of its leading colleges and universities, health systems, research organizations and beyond that underlie this exciting new opportunity. The design firm is proudly helping Boston shape an even brighter future.

Ranked #1 for facility related services by an architecture firm per World Architecture 100, FOS is a trailblazer in empowering clients to understand, track, assess and make data-driven decisions related to their real estate. FOS has performed over a billion square feet of facility condition assessments, and offers an FCA and capital planning software platform called FOScore® to enable data collection, cost analysis and forecasting, planning and reporting.

This contract comes at a pivotal moment for the City of Boston’s facility management workforce. Widely recognized as the cultural and financial center of the New England Region, Boston has recently hired a new director of public works and shifted its focus to next-generation, data-driven facility planning. The city’s five-year vision includes ambitious goals and strategic initiatives that will position Boston as a global leader in successful large-city facility and real estate planning.
