FOS conducted an Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance assessment for over 5.7 million sf of space at the Marquette University downtown campus. The dedicated assessment architects visited over 70 buildings documenting conditions and providing specific recommendations for improvement and compliance.
The ADA Assessment, using the 2010 ADA, focused on: site accessibility, access to building products & services, restrooms and communication features.
Barrier removal, additions and alterations, new construction and dormitories/apartments were assessed. Specifically, within each of the assessed categories, the following was analyzed and deficiencies reported: accessible route from site arrival points, accessible van parking spaces and access aisles, ramps, entrances and operating hardware, stairs and railings, elevators and lifts, public space amenities, user controls, seating, locker rooms, sales and retail spaces, service counters, restrooms, drinking fountains and protruding objects, fire alarm systems and signage.
The results included qualitative and quantitative data, allowing ranking and benchmarking, to objectively inform future campus-wide projects. Using a three-tiered ranking system, the assessment report grouped systems and components into “Generally Non-Compliant”, “Partially Compliant”, and “Generally Compliant” categories to be prioritized in their compliance transition plan.
